At the risk of writing off-topic, I would like to take this opportunity to recommend 3 books that are absolutely sensational, and potential game-changers with respect to your personal development (or your employees, your kids, your students…)

  1. The Talent Code: Greatness Isn’t Born. It’s Grown. Here’s How by Daniel Coyle – want to be a superstar athlete or a world-class musician? This book is an exploration into how talent comes to be, and what techniques you can implement to dramatically increase your ability in just about anything. Learn about how highly-focused deep learning creates more myelin around your nerve cells, and how this makes you more talented.
  2. Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck – a compelling look at the impact of your personal mindset and how you may be imposing severe limitations on your own growth and success as well as how your mindset can influence others (for better or worse). Learn how to be of the “growth mindset” as opposed to the “fixed mindset”, and how this change in perspective can revolutionize every aspect of your life.
  3. Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport – similar in some ways to The Talent CodeDeep Work examines the value of highly focused, undistracted, fully engaged work for sustained periods of time as a way to greatly increase your productivity as well as to improve your skills. Additionally, the book discusses the innumerable distractions that disrupt our “deep work” and the long-term negative effects of these distractions.

Whether you are a professional, a student, or a parent, the insights you will gain regarding how to achieve excellence could be transformational. All three are easy reads, and will probably have you reevaluating your true potential, and may even motivate you to tackle a project or a goal that you’ve put off for too long.

Already read some of these? I would love to hear your thoughts – feel free to comment or drop me a line.
